Global Recycled Standard

The Global Recycled Standard was devised for companies that manufacture or sell products containing recycled material. The purpose of the Global Recycled Standard (GRS) is to guarantee the recycled content of a product. It certifies that all the production processes across the whole supply chain have undergone proper measures to guarantee the integrity of the final product.

In addition to monitoring the recycled content that goes into an end product, the standard also tackles matters related to environmental and social criteria.

The GRS is based on a track and trace principle that uses a transaction certificate-based system similar to holistic certification to ensure the very highest level of integrity. This acts as a monitoring and control device across the whole value chain of the certified final products.

The GRS is currently the most globally advanced standard for recycled product components, and includes the following four sections.

Recycled material requirements

Environmental principles

Social principles

Chemical requirements
